A species that produces large inflorescences of hundreds of small white flowers with a blue mark on the lower petals. These flowers have a pleasant honey scent.

A free flowering species with violet blue flowers with a distinct strong yellow bar in the throat. Compact hairy leaves.

A medium sized serrated edged unifoliate, with a large cluster of small light magenta to pale violet flowers. The leaves and flowers stems are dusted in dark red pigment granules.

S. dunnii (83)
This species is normally a unifoliate (i.e. produces one large leaf up to 1 metre) though it can sometimes produce several leaves. Large numbers of flowers are produced over several months, colour varies between plants ranging from pink to deep red. S. dunnii is the only red species and it is from this that crosses have been made to bring the red pigment into modern varieties. When it first flowered at Kew in 1886 it was described by Hooker as 'this magnificent plant... quite the monarch of its beautiful genus'. Limited availability.

An excellent floriferous species with tall stems and very distinctive dark purple lines in the throat. Limited availability.

S. kentaniensis (85)
A very unusual and desirable species as this is the only winter flowering species. Under good growing conditions this will flower all year, being particularly floriferous during the winter. The flowers are small, white with a hint of yellow, with veins radiating out of the centre. The leaves are narrow (12 mm) and lance shaped (up to 20 cm in length).

This species is a unifoliate (i.e. usuall produces only one leaf). The leaf is oval shaped up to 12 cm in length. A low mound of hundreds of pure white flowers are produced.

A unifoliate with leaves up to 60cm long. The medium violet flowers are held on long stems and the undeneath of the leaf is beetroot red. This species is monocarpic and you will need to collect the seed to propagte it.

A stemmed Streptocarpus with an upright habit. The cornflower blue flowers are the largest yet amongst the stemmed Streptocarpus, being over 3 cm wide. A freely branching variety forming a rounded plant with many flowers.
